I’m a self-taught watercolour artist and surface designer from Christchurch, New Zealand, my love for creativity has been a lifelong journey inspired by everything from natures beauty to textiles, interior design or by reflecting my surroundings into my work.

Melanie Ross Designs started back In 2018, while my husband and I were juggling life with two young children and owning a CrossFit gym, I felt a strong pull to reconnect with my artistic roots and started experimenting with watercolour, painting bold botanical designs. I had my paintings printed onto 100% New Zealand Merino which I would sew into beanies and scarves for our kids to wear to preschool, this was to be my first taste of Surface Design.

I love that Surface design allows my paintings to live beyond the paper, to make artwork that not only connects with people but creates memories. From fabrics chosen for special handmade gifts, wallpaper that sets the mood of a room, or cushions that bring a quiet joy or a pop of colour to a home. I hope to bring warmth, colour, and personality into everyday life through each and every design.
